Plumbing

The Dilling Group, Inc. plumbing apprenticeship program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT). This program effectively equips the apprentice with all skills and knowledge required to master fundamental through complex plumbing. Apprentice plumbers demonstrate mastery of all curriculum units by successfully passing all written and practical exams for all units.

Curriculum units taught include:

  • Business principles for plumbers
  • Carbon steel pipe and fittings
  • Cast iron pipe and fittings
  • Codes
  • Compressed air systems
  • Copper pipe and fittings
  • Corrosive resistant waste piping
  • Fixtures and faucets
  • Hangers, supports, structural penetrations and fire-stopping
  • Hydronic and solar heating systems
  • Indirect and special waste systems
  • Installation of roof, floor and area drains
  • Installing and servicing fixtures, valves and faucets
  • Installing water heaters and fuel gas systems
  • Introduction to electricity
  • Introductory skills for crew leaders
  • Plastic pipe and fittings
  • Plumbing math 2
  • Plumbing safety, tools, math and drawings
  • Potable water treatment
  • Private water supply and waste disposal systems
  • Reading commercial drawings
  • Servicing piping, systems, fixtures and appliances
  • Sewage and sump pumps
  • Sizing, installing and testing DWV piping
  • Sizing, installing and testing water supply piping

  • Water pressure booster and recirculation systems

 

After completion of the four year apprenticeship plumbing program, candidates are encouraged to take and pass state licensure exams. After successfully passing state licensure exams, candidates are issued a license to practice plumbing in the authorizing state. Many Dilling Group, Inc. journeyman plumbers are licensed to practice the plumbing trade in more than one state.
